Notes from a Welsh Wedding Band | The Midnight Fiddle Band at The Orangery, Margam - 9th October 2026

Creating the soundtrack for Emily and Matthew's South Wales Wedding in the gorgeous Margam Orangery
Photography by Rebecca Randall
TLDR: live wedding music, autumnal wedding vibes, dancing with no shoes on, everyone having the best time, we love The Orangery, Irish folk country wedding music vibes, bride and groom having a ball on the dance floor. That should do it!
Picture this: it's a cosy Friday in October, the leaves are changing, the air is getting cooler, and you're invited to a wedding surrounded by expansive hills, woodland, lakes, a castle, and the most picturesque Orangery. Towering arches of glass filling the room with the Autumn sun, the history of the building echoing through the venue. Well, I don't have to imagine it because I was lucky enough to be invited to be part of this epic celebration for Emily and Matthew, the new Mr & Mrs Diffey.
The Package
Solo Acoustic Guitar and Vocals with Laura for the Ceremony and Drinks Reception
The Midnight Fiddle Band for the evening reception
DJ service until the end of the night

The Ceremony
As always, the ceremony was fully personalised to the couple, with Emily and Matthew selecting ceremony music that was special to them. The Bridal Party entrance music was Dog Days are Over by Florence and The Machine. As soon as I saw Emily after the ceremony she said "As soon as I heard you start singing I was in tears!" Hope I didn't make your mascara run too much!
The couple signed the register to the soundtrack of Stand by Me (Ben E King), I will wait (Mumford and Sons) and Watermelon Moonshine (Lainey Wilson).
Their epic exit as their loved ones cheered and clapped was From Now On (The Greatest Showman)
Pretty amazing song choices if you ask me!

I think the pictures do most of the talking here, but this is the blog of a South Wales wedding band, so I'll give you our takes too!
From the second we arrived, it was party time. I spoke to the Orangery staff to get the lights turned down, got the party lighting on, the background music up a couple of notches so that the guests could get in the mood whilst the band set up on the stage.
After the cake was cut, we summoned everyone to surround the dancefloor and welcome the bride and groom for their first dance, which was I wanna dance with somebody, but the Fallout Boy version, fun!
The dance floor erupted from the word go, with song requests from the newlywed couple along the lines of Rattlin Bog (yes please), This is the Life (yes please), Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac, yes please x 100) and absolutely no Ed Sheeran or cheesy wedding music (your wish is our command!)
The Orangery, our fave bits
It's the funny statues, of course it's the funny statues.

But it's also
The incredible natural reverb (echo for you non musician folks) in the room created by the long, tall architecture
The surroundings - how can you not love playing in such a historical, quintessentially WELSH venue.
The stage - Look, any venue that elevates us and gets us even more attention is a win for us
The usual - the food, the staff and the parking. We're pretty low maintenance but it is a treat whenever a venue feeds us, lets us park near the performance area and gives us a soft drink during the evening reception. The bar is on the floor, but The Orangery ticks all of our boxes! Plus, the team are genuinely so lovely, and the venue is 18 minutes from my front door, you can't complain.
So yes, all in, The Orangery at Margam is a pretty big winner for a South Wales Wedding Band

About the author
Hi! I'm Laura, the founder of The Midnight Fiddle Band, and you'll usually find me behind a microphone, guitar or violin. I've been working as a professional musician since 2016, and I've been lucky enough to spend a lot of that time being part of people's weddings. It's safe to say I adore my job. I started this blog to share some of the weddings we get to be part of, the people we meet along the way, and a few things I've learned about weddings and entertainment over the years
