Notes from a Welsh Wedding Band | The Midnight Fiddle Band at Forest Farm, Pembrokeshire, 31st October 2026

A very countryside wedding at Fforest Farm, Pembrokeshire

TLDR: Cowboy hats, country boots, cat cutouts, country music
On the last day of October, we headed to Fforest Wedding venue to celebrate with the country-loving Calvin & Marie with an evening reception full of live country music, dancing and some excelletn country-themed outfits.
Picture roaring log fires, autumnal colours, candles, a rustic wooden barn, cowboy boots as vases (10/10), and a couple of very important cats in cardboard form. Cosy, colourful and personal.

The Party (and the surprise)
Calvin and Marie booked The Midnight Fiddle Band for their evening entertainment, with our DJ service to keep the music going until the end of the night. What Calvin didn't know when he was called to the dancefloor for his first dance was that he was about to be serenaded by his bride, a surprise we happily facilitated!

Marie took to the stage and performed 'Always remember us this way' by Lady Gaga from A Star Is Born. Surrounded by cheering friends and family, and a very smitten groom and their gorgeous sons
From the bride's centre stage moment, to the first dance, to the dancefloor...
The first dance: Harvest Moon (Neil Young) played live by yours truly.
There's something so special about playing a live version of a couple's first dance. This pair chose Harvest Moon by Neil Young which was just such a perfect vibe for a wintery October wedding!
"I want to see you dance again, because I'm still in love with you on this Harvest Moon"
Sharp left turn to dancefloor filling hits, an inflatable cow costume and cowboy hats in the air!
As always, no two crowds are the same, so we don't work to a rigid set list or use backing tracks, which means we can read the room and adapt to the vibe. This gang was heavy on the country music, and we even got handed a request for Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash scrawled on a napkin mid-set, which we were happy to oblige!
Fforest Farm - Our Fave Bits

It's actually not the roaring fires because fires inside a barn within a meter of the singer = a whole load of coughing and some sore lungs the next day, but we can absolutely appreciate the cosy vibes nonetheless (and they make for some great photos!)
The rustic barn - there's just nothing quite like a wooden barn, with benches, woodland shrubbery surrounding it, and log furniture to set the scene for a real county music centred wedding.
The surroundings - it was fully dark by the time we got there for the evening reception on this occasion but trust me when I say the surroundings are breathtaking (in a different way to the smoky fires)
The decor - Calvin and Marie decorated the rustic barn with autumnal colours, ribbon bunting and a beautiful ribbon backdrop that provided the centrepiece to our stage for the evening!
And from a south wales wedding band's perspective, a barn in west wales, booked by two people who love country music enough to encorporate cowboy hats and boots into their outfits and filled with all their favourite people is a pretty excellent way to spend a chilly Saturday in October.

About the author
Hi! I'm Laura, the founder of The Midnight Fiddle Band, and you'll usually find me behind a microphone, guitar or violin. I've been working as a professional musician since 2016, and I've been lucky enough to spend a lot of that time being part of people's weddings. It's safe to say I adore my job. I started this blog to share some of the weddings we get to be part of, the people we meet along the way, and a few things I've learned about weddings and entertainment over the years
